When I heard last week that poet Ruth Dallas had died last week, dairy cows jumped into my head. I wasn't sure what that was all about until I remembered her poem 'Milking before Dawn': 'In the drifting rain the cows in the yard are as black/And wet and shiny as rocks in an ebbing tide'.
Online, there's an obituary of Ruth Dallas from the Southland Times, an article on the TV3 website, and posts from Beattie's Book Blog and Tim Jones's Books in the Trees.
